ABSTRACT
Thousands of cancer studies were presented at the 44th annual meeting of the American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO)
in Chicago, IL, from May 30 to June 3, 2008. The Oral Abstract Session on Gastrointestinal (Noncolorectal) Cancers featured nine
presentations. Two of the talks discussed the results of phase III trials of adjuvant and first-line treatments for gastric cancer. The
presentations at the Sarcoma Session reviewed issues related to the roles of chemotherapy and the clinical prognostic features,
the optimal use of targeted agents and the challenges in assessing their benefit for patients suffering with gastrointestinal stromal
tumors (GISTs).
